IMPORTANT DEADLINES

SCHOLARSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS, INTERNSHIPS:

Deadline July 1, 2009: The Latino Task Force of Monroe County 2009 College Scholarship Essay Competition. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to a Latino/Hispanic student accepted or enrolled full time in an accredited four-year college, university, or community college, who has resided for a minimum of two years in Monroe County, and who has obtained a GPA of 3.0 or greater. The awardee will be selected in August and the scholarship presentation will take place at the LTF annual Hispanic Heritage month gala dinner at the Chateau Resort & Conference Center, Tannersville, PA. Spring 2009: "As a part of the Disney College Program at Disneyland® Resort, participants will have the opportunity to develop their strengths and interests, meet guests and Cast Members from around the country and take part in educational opportunities they just can't get anywhere else. This truly unique program allows participants to network with Disneyland Resort leaders, take part in personal- and career-development classes, and build transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, Guest service and effective communication. All participants will work in front-line roles at the Disneyland Resort, including Stores, Attractions, Food & Beverage, Entertainment, Lodging and many more. Participants have the opportunity to custom design a learning curriculum that best suits their needs. To apply, students must be enrolled currently in a college or university and have completed at least one semester. Attend Harvard University For Free:  Think you can't affort it?  Families with incomes of $60,000 a year and below will pay zero if their child is admitted to Harvard University.  In addition, with Harvard’s new financial aid policy families with incomes below $180,000 will have to pay dramatically less for their child's tuition.  And what's more in calculating the financial aid packages offered to undergraduates, Harvard will not expect students to take out loans.  Click Here For More Information. 

Become a Page in Congress:  High school juniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in core academic subjects may apply to work as Pages in the U.S. House of Representatives for a fall or spring appointment. There is no GPA requirement for Pages who work during the summer semester. While serving the House, Pages live in Washington D.C., at the Page Residence Hall, a few blocks away from the Capitol. During the academic year, Pages attend classes at the House Page School. Pages must be sponsored by a Member of Congress and be at least sixteen years old on the date they begin their term. Several Deadlines:  The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) scholarship applications are open for both undergraduate and graduate students.  There are several scholarships available.  The first deadline is February 18.  HSF is the premier organization in the country providing scholarship support to Latino students. Federal Student Aid -- Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG) $750 for first-year college students and up to $1,300 for second year students. Federal Student Aid -- National SMART grants third and fourth year Pell Grant-eligible students who meet the requirements (major in designated science, technology, math or critical foreign languages and maintains a 3.0 GPA) will automatically receive up $4,000.  Pennsylvania State Financial Aid -- Find out about all PA programs to help you get to college.
